In 3A, we manufacture a wide range of standard stainless steel cylinders in various construction variants and in accordance with ISO6432, ISO15552, and ISO21287 Norms.
In addition, We offer non standard cylinders that are designed to be interchangeable to major international cylinders manufacturers.
However, We are often demanded from our partners to develop special cylinders according to specific customer requirements, either for interchangeability purposes or to achieve the highest levels of performance demanded by the specific application.
Fields of application are several and can vary as i.e. Automotive, Off-Shore, Pharma and Food&Beverage industries. Stainless steel cylinders are mainly known for several advantages, which can be summarized as follows:
- Corrosion resistance: Stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosive processes, even in hostile environments with high levels of humidity or in presence of chemical substances.
- High-temperatures resistance: This is often achieved also by using seals made of special compounds produced for working environments with temperatures above 80°C.
- Cleaning purposes: Particularly for applications requiring high cleanliness standards, such as Pharma and Food&Beverage, inox cylinders are accompanied by seals capable of withstanding the cleaning solutions used for machine washings.
In general, the choice of stainless steel (such as AISI303, AISI304, and AISI316 as standard offer) for the construction of individual components depends on the application’s specific requirements, using special alloys for some highly demanding specific applications.

In this post, we are showcasing special cylinders entirely made of stainless steel, with distinctive custom-made features:
One of our partner required a stainless steel cylinder with an enlarged piston rod to withstand higher loads and mechanical stresses.
Additionally, the piston rod of this cylinder came into direct contact with highly aggressive chemical solutions that needed to be removed from the piston rod without coming into contact with the nose seal.
By the end, We decided to use a special guide bush, ensuring smooth movement with reduced friction, achieving a higher reliable and durable cylinder.

For this project, Our customer needed to offer two special cylinders to be interchangeable to cylinders produced by another cylinders manufacturer.
These cylinders were completely custom-made and not built according to any ISO or other directives.
Initially, the challenge was to achieve the dimensions required by the specific application on the machinery, adapting to sizes that could not be modified.
We then studied how to improve an existing product while preserving certain characteristics.
We successfully produced special stainless steel cylinders, creating two different variants: a single-acting version with a front spring and a single-acting version with passive piston rod return.
A distinctive feature of these cylinders is the presence of two check valves integrated into the front cover, which allow for controlled air intake into the cylinder while filtering out dirt.
