The correct choice of piston rod seal
The correct choice of the piston rod seal
The performance and life span of a pneumatic cylinder are deeply related to the use of quality components, especially regarding the sealing gaskets.
3A’s goal of producing high quality cylinders has therefore shifted towards a careful study and selection of cushioning, piston rod and piston seal that could guarantee the high standard we have set in terms of reliability and durability of our solution.
Pneumatics are widely used in various application sectors, and consequently, pneumatic components, including cylinders, must operate under extremely different conditions.

In this post, we focus on presenting the wide range of piston rod seals we offer, without delving into the related range of piston seals available:

STANDARD SEAL
Polyurethan seal, particularly suitable for applications where the cylinder performs a high number of cycles, with high grade on wearing resistance. This seal is particularly suitable for working temperature between -20°C and +80°C.
FDA APPROVED SEAL
FDA approved PU P5600 seal for Food&Beverage applications for direct contact with food and corrosive agents with operating temperatures ranging from -20°C to +80°C.
LOW TEMPERATURE SEAL
Piston rod seal with special NBR compound capable of operating in environments with very low temperatures down to -40°C.
HARD PLASTIC WIPER
Solution particularly indicated for working environments with dirt and dust, that combinates and NBR retaining seal and a polymer wiper capable of operating at temperatures ranging from -20°C up to +80°C.

HIGH TEMPERATURE SEAL
Highly performing FKM piston rod seal for operating temperatures ranging from -10°C up to +150°C also indicated in presence of chemical agents.
ANTI STAGNATION SEAL
Special PU seal designed to prevent the stagnation of substances on the cylinder’s nose surface. This special seal has an external hat-shaped surface that avoid the accumulation of substances on the seal profile.
METAL SCRAPER
Solution that combines an FKM retaining seal with a metal scraper, particularly recommended for heavy-duty applications where material buildup on the piston rod that needs to be scraped of, in environments with temperatures ranging from -10°C to +150°C.
The choice of the correct piston rod seal plays a vital role in ensuring the correct functioning of the cylinder and maximizing its reliability and durability. Our technical department is always committed to develop and recommend the most suitable solution for any working environment, both regarding standard and custom-made solutions.
